And it begins...

The boys are in their room, and they're supposed to be falling asleep. Instead all I hear is hysterical laughter. Hysterical baby laughter and squeals mixed with the giggling of a toddler. Every minute or two Anthony yells out... "Mommy! Baby Luke funny!!" And ... "Goodnight, baby Luke!" The goodnight announcement is then followed by more giggles from Luke, and laughs from Anthony. Ian and I are laughing at them laughing. hahaha! I just love how they are interacting more and more. Brotherly bonding. Becoming a little team. Now GO TO BED! :P

  1. Love it!! I think this is when my 2 big boys bond the most. They fight and pick at each other all day long then lay in bed at night talking about their day and making all kinds of plans for tomorrow. I love listening to the quietly talk and allow it. It's when they get too loud or won't stay in bed that I play mean mommy. Ellie and Sam do this some but not like the boys. I feel bad for Ellie knowing that in a couple of more years she'll be alone in her room while the 3 boys party next door.

Spring is Finally Here!

Finally! I feel like Spring has finally come to stay. My allergies are killing me, and my skin is reacting to sunlight in true Jess fashion. I'm pretty sure I have solar urticaria. WebMD told me so, so it must be legit. Seriously though, I do have all the symptoms and it seems to be getting worse with age. It's kind of awful but the fresh air is so nice, I can't stand to stay inside. I likely am going to have to get some sun protective clothing. If I was worried about being cool before, wearing a long-sleeve swimsuit really will seal my fate as a very, uncool mom. hahaha! Last week was so nice out that we took the whole week off from school and focused on enjoying the weather and preparing for Easter. The homeschooling community likes to say that instead of taking off for snow-days, we take off for sun-days. I do love that flexibility.  Today, we started back up with school again but the boys still spent most of the day outside in the fresh city air, and our day was pre...

Autumn fun!

Last week, to celebrate the official start of Autumn we took a little nature walk at a nearby park. I just love this park because there is so much space, that I don't worry about the kids running too far ahead of me.   My little Luke especially loves that I am not constantly asking him to 'wait' or 'come back'. He is ever the explorer.        Our mission was to observe nature in the beginning of Autumn, and collect things we find on the ground.       We had a really fun time exploring. Anthony spotted some lilypads, but to his mild disappointment, no frogs. We saw a squirrel in a tree making a really weird noise that I had no idea squirrels were even capable of making. We came to the conclusion that he may have been sick, or singing us a song. Lukie made friends with a couple of ducks. We observed the very dark gray skies, and predicted that it would begin raining some...

Learning

I just love teaching Anthony. I am sure I will enjoy teaching Luke as well, but Anthony is at an age where he can communicate well enough that you can measure what he is learning. I think the most important thing to do is to instill a love for learning. We read books all the time, and I try to allow Anthony to explore his surroundings, and (safely) follow through with his curiosities. Discovering and learning new things can be so much fun, even when it is messy, loud, and repetitive. A lot of times when I feel myself getting uptight about him making a mess, or getting dirty, or banging pots and pans together, I remember that he is really discovering this stuff for the first time. It is all brand new to him, so I should relax and let him have some fun. Safe fun, but fun nonetheless. Anyway, Anthony counts to ten, - actually he does 1-12 and 16-20. hahaha. And recites some of his ABCs and can recogize some of the letters and numbers as well. And he does this ALL. DAY. LONG. Talk abou...
