Our first big boo-boo

Having 2 boys, I tried to prepare myself for the reality that the boys are going to get hurt. They will probably break a bone, skin their fair share of knees, and see the inside of an emergency room more than once in their adventurous childhoods. But nothing prepares you for that horrifying moment where you hear that blood-curdling scream, and see blood but cannot identify it's source. It happened yesterday when we were at the park. Anthony tried to go down something that is meant for climbing. He lost his footing, and I caught him before he hit the ground. Then came the scream, and the blood. He bit straight through his tongue. We called the doctor who asked a lot of questions and determined that a trip to the emergency room was not necessary. Today Anthony seems fine. He is talking and eating and his tongue looks much better, thank God. I know this is just the first of many injuries, but even though I know that, I doubt that scary feeling will ever go away.

  1. My sympathies!! The first time IS scary. But honestly, I've gotten used to it. If anything happens at my house it happens to Ben: dislocated elbow commonly called nursemaid's elbow (urgent care); fell and busted the back of his head needing 3 staples (urgent care); pooped lots of blood eventually having a colonoscopy and determined it was a benign polyp (Hasbro); fell off swingset and broke arm (Hasbro).

So far no one's had stitches and no one else has been to urgent care or the ER. Fun times! Oh, and the time Ben was in Hasbro for 3 days - I was pregnant with Sam but we hadn't told anyone yet. I looked sicker than he did!!

  2. It makes me feel a LOT better hearing that the scary feeling might ease up a bit!! It's hard cause you try to stay calm so they don't freak out even more... but it is hard when there is blood, or broken bones!

We're back!

Well, things have calmed down in a lot of ways, which frees me up to blog. Something I really enjoy doing. There will be another element to this blog, as I figure out how to navigate the exciting and overwhelming world of food allergies.       My oldest is diagnosed with severe food allergies, and now my 8 month old baby is showing signs of the same things. We are managing severe food allergies to eggs, peanuts, tree-nuts, fish and shellfish. I have eliminated milk from my diet and it is helping the baby immensely. I strongly suspect he has a severe allergy to milk.      So our house has been turned upside-down by food allergies yet again. I had grown used to using milk products as a crutch for making sure my boys got enough of their nutrients. It is likely we will have to transition to a milk free home sooner rather than later. I have already cut it from my diet, and must say that I feel pretty good. I do miss cheese and ice...

Snapshot

Today, naptime = party-time. Today, I don't care enough to stop it. Today, I just close the door and let them play.  Today, I am exhausted in every way. Today, I need a nap probably more than any other day this week. Today, I will not get one. Today, there is paint on the walls and laundry everywhere, clean and dirty. Today I have to wash our comforter and pillows that our oldest son threw-up all over in the middle of the night last night. Today he is feeling fine. Today I am trying to remain thankful through the exhaustion. And as I write this, this line came on from one of my favorite Shane & Shane songs:  "Revive me, revive me not for me but for Your name." Today, I am thankful that God is God.

Saturday Fun!
